Pepper Computer
Unveils Pepper Keeper™ Software for Consumers
New Pepper Pad™ Receives Innovations 2004 Design and Engineering Showcase Honors
LEXINGTON, MA, December 16, 2003 - Pepper Computer, Inc. announces the availability of its first products, the Pepper Keeper™ 1.0 and the Pepper Keeper Suites for Windows and Macintosh computers and Linux Wi-Fi Pads. The Pepper Keeper introduces a new class of software designed specifically for consumers for instant sharing and collaboration via instant messaging (IM) or e-mail.
The Pepper Keeper supports downloadable software applications called Pepper Packages™ that are focused on real life communication, creativity, entertainment and personal productivity activities. With a Pepper Keeper and Pepper Packages, consumers can create, collect, organize and share their digital collections of photos, text and music in an ad-free environment.
"Our products offer consumers one intuitive interface, significantly reducing computer complexity," said Mary Ellen Heinen, president, Pepper Computer. "Consumers can finally use the same software on any computing device and seamlessly share their creations between PCs, Macs and the coming generation of Wi-Fi Pads."
With the Pepper Keeper 1.0 consumers can:
• Create photo albums or scrapbooks and share them with friends and family via IM (instant messaging) or e-mail.
• Collaborate with friends to co-author photo albums or scrapbooks.
• Keep personal journals and share them with just their friends, instead of everyone on the Web.
• Capture and organize information about favorite musicians and bands, while listening to MP3s.
• Browse the Web from any Package, keeping bookmarks and Web page clippings right in
the Package and then share the bookmarks and clippings with friends.
• Make personalized greeting cards and e-mail them to friends without ads or outside Web sites.
The initial Pepper Keeper products are:
• The FREE Pepper Keeper 1.0, includes six sample Pepper Packages.
• The Pepper Keeper Suite 1.0, includes seven full-size Pepper Packages.
Regular Price - $29.95 (Special Introductory Price through 1/31/04 - $19.99)
• The Pepper Keeper Suite for Wi-Fi Pads, optionally includes the Pepper Pad™ Reference Design, a highly optimized Linux and Java run-time environment; Pepper Porting Services and Custom Pepper Keeper Suites. The Pepper Pad is the ideal device to run the Pepper Keeper software and delivers a completely new mobile Wi-Fi experience to consumers. The Pepper Pad weighs 2 pounds and has an 8-inch color SVGA screen, 802.11 Wi-Fi auto-networking, Bluetooth, multi-gigabyte disk, thumb keypad, stereo speakers and replaceable faceplates
Pepper Computer's business is licensing the Pepper Keeper Suite 1.0 and the Pepper Keeper Suite for Wi-Fi Pads to online service providers, digital content providers, hardware manufacturers and other commercial partners.
The Pepper Keeper software enables partners to offer their customers value added services, differentiating their service offerings and increasing their average revenue per user (ARPU). Pepper Computer's new consumable software model, where consumers use up the pages in their Pepper Packages and then buy new packages, provides attractive prices to the consumer and a recurring revenue stream for Pepper and its' partners. Additional benefits include reduced design and development costs and accelerated time to market.
The Pepper Keeper software is also available for individual consumer download from the online Pepper Computer Store, store.pepper.com.
The company's Pepper Pad has been selected as one of the Honorees in the Computer Hardware category of the Innovations 2004 Design and Engineering Showcase at the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show®, January 8-11, in Las Vegas. The Pepper Keeper and Pepper Pad Reference Design will be demonstrated in the Pepper booth #22113, 2nd floor of the South Hall.
